About this service
What is a pediatric echo?
It is ultrasound imaging of the heart’s structure and function in infants and children. It does not use ionizing radiation like a chest X-ray.
When might it be requested?
A pediatrician may request it after hearing a murmur, or because of symptoms that need a cardiac look, or as follow-up the treating doctor already knows about. This page does not diagnose a child from a generic description.
What happens during the test?
Gel is placed on the chest and a small probe captures images. The child may need extra time or soothing. The team explains what can be explained after the study.
